Assessment 5

Plot Synopsis


A priest haunted by the brutual murder of his wife decided to do God work and get rid of all ‘sinners’ and kill anyone he holds responsible for his wife’s death. The only problem is he blames everyone for his wife’s death. He also see’s everyone as being a sinner. His downfall is he is sloppy he starts killing people to close to his own church. He has flashbacks of his wife’s death that makes him worse every time he see’s her. His Wife begins appearing around the church and tries sending him messages telling him to stop but he interprets these messages wrong.

Opening Sequence


Opening titles begin to play with music in the background. There is a medium shot of the priest getting ready the audience do not get to see what he is doing. It then cuts to an establishment shot of a man praying in one of the stands, the priest is visible in the corner of the shot. The priest falls back against the wall and then he has a flash back. The flashbacks are in black and white. In the flash back there is a high angle of the priest walking in on his wife laying dead on the floor of the church when she was working late in the church, he notices that the silver has been stolen to he then realises that his wife was murdered by a petty thief. It then cuts back to the current time. There is a deep focus shot of the guy praying as the priest works over to him, he begging to talk to the priest, the priest is concealing a weapon behind him and he strikes the man with it killing him. He drags the body in to an old room this is viewed in a high angle. Then there is a long shot of him hiding the weapon. There is then an establishment shot as he begins to pray and a woman comes in looking for something and he tell her to go into the room there is a tracking shot as she walks over and into the room. There is a medium shot of the woman and we see her reaction to the dead body and we see the priest come up behind her and swing the weapon at her it then cuts out before he hits her. He then falls on to his bed to go to sleep this is to suggest the violence that happened of screen. As he is laying in his bed there is a point of view shot as something begins to open his bedroom door. As the door opens more we realise that it is the ghost of his dead wife.


Target Audience

The opening scene appeals to the target audience as it creates suspense and has aspects of horror films. It shows the plot of the film in the opening sequence and involves a lot of action. It shows violence which you would expect in a horror film.
